Privacy Policy for Jourlit

Last updated: June 8, 2026 · Effective date: June 8, 2026

1. Introduction

Polaris View ("Polaris View," "we," "us," or "our") operates the mobile application Jourlit (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains what information the App processes, how that information is used, where it is stored, which third parties may be involved, and what choices you have.

By downloading, accessing, or using Jourlit, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

2. Who We Are (Data Controller)

For purposes of applicable privacy laws, Polaris View is the data controller for information processed through the App, except where Apple or other service providers act as independent controllers for their own services (for example, iCloud, the App Store, or Apple Health).

3. About Jourlit

Jourlit is an iOS app for habit tracking and journaling. Depending on your plan and settings, the App may include:

  • Habit tracking — custom habits, daily completions, heatmaps, and optional Apple Health automation (steps and workouts)
  • Journaling — text entries and hold-to-talk voice journaling with on-device transcription
  • Timeline — chronological view of journal activity by day
  • Location — optional coordinates attached to journal entries when you choose to log them
  • Map view (Jourlit Pro) — visualization of located entries with place labels
  • Export (Jourlit Pro) — export a day's entries as CSV or PDF via the iOS share sheet
  • Widgets (Jourlit Pro) — Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets for habits and journal shortcuts
  • iCloud sync — sync habits and journal data across your Apple devices when signed into the same Apple ID with iCloud enabled
  • Jourlit Pro — subscription features including unlimited habits, full timeline browsing, map, export, and widgets

The free tier includes core journaling, today's timeline, and one habit. Additional habits and Pro features require an active Jourlit Pro subscription.

5. Information We Collect and Process

5.1 Information You Provide Directly

Journal entries

  • Text you type into the App
  • Text produced from voice journaling after you use the microphone
  • Timestamps associated with each entry
  • Entry type metadata (for example, journal-only or related activity type)

Habit data

  • Habit names, icons, colors, sort order, and completion history
  • Whether a completion was recorded manually or via Apple Health automation
  • Health automation settings you configure (for example, daily step goal, workout type, duration target)

Optional location data

  • Latitude and longitude coordinates attached to a journal entry only when you choose to include location at the time of logging
  • We do not continuously track your location in the background

Preferences and settings

  • Accent/theme color, haptics on/off, workspace layout (journal and/or habits modules)
  • Reminder times and on/off state for morning and evening local notifications
  • Timeline behavior for deleted journal content
  • Widget-related preferences stored in App Group storage
  • Onboarding and permission prompt state (for example, whether you have been offered Apple Health or voice journaling permissions)

Support communications

If you email us at support@polarisview.com, we receive the information you voluntarily include (such as your email address, message content, and device details you choose to provide).

5.2 Information Processed Automatically on Your Device

Device and app information

Basic device context needed for the App to function (for example, iOS version, app version, device model) through standard Apple frameworks.

Subscription entitlement status mirrored locally so widgets and extensions can respect Jourlit Pro features.

Locally stored usage flags

Certain non-content flags are stored in UserDefaults on your device (for example, whether a review prompt was shown, whether a reminder offer was displayed, HealthKit authorization prompt completion state). These are used for App functionality and are not transmitted to Polaris View servers.

Diagnostic logging

The App may write technical logs locally using Apple's system logging (OSLog) for debugging store, HealthKit, and sync issues. These logs are not sent to Polaris View by default.

5.3 Information Processed Through Apple and Other Service Providers

When you use certain features, data is processed by Apple or our subscription partner as described in Section 8.

Apple iCloud / CloudKit (optional sync)
If you are signed into iCloud on your device, habits, journal entries, notes, and completion records may sync to your private iCloud container (iCloud.com.polarisview.TallyCounter) through Apple's CloudKit service. This data is associated with your Apple ID and governed by Apple's privacy policy.

Apple Speech Recognition (voice journaling)
When you use voice journaling, audio is recorded temporarily to a file on your device, transcribed using Apple's on-device speech recognition (requiresOnDeviceRecognition), and the temporary audio file is deleted after transcription. The App is designed not to retain raw voice recordings after transcription completes.

Apple Location Services (optional)
If you grant location permission, the App may access your location while in use to attach coordinates to a journal entry you are creating.

Apple reverse geocoding (map labels)
When you view map features, stored coordinates may be sent to Apple's geocoding service to display human-readable place names (for example, city and region). This does not start continuous GPS tracking.

Apple HealthKit (optional)
If you enable automated habits, the App may read:

  • Step count — to determine whether a daily step goal was met
  • Workout data — including workout type and duration, to determine whether a workout habit goal was met

Jourlit uses HealthKit read access only. It does not write health data to Apple Health. Health data remains subject to Apple's Health privacy controls, and you can revoke access at any time in the Health app or iOS Settings.

Apple StoreKit / App Store (subscriptions)
Purchases, renewals, offer code redemption, and subscription management are handled by Apple. We do not receive your full payment card details.

RevenueCat (subscription status)
We use RevenueCat to manage in-app subscription entitlements and offerings. RevenueCat may process identifiers and purchase-related information to validate your Jourlit Pro status. See Section 8.

5.4 Information We Do Not Collect

Unless you voluntarily provide it for support, we do not collect:

  • Your name, email address, or phone number through normal App use
  • Your contacts or address book
  • Biometric data (Face ID / Touch ID is handled by iOS, not collected by us)
  • Background location history
  • Raw voice recordings after transcription is complete
  • Advertising identifiers for cross-app tracking

We also do not operate our own analytics or crash-reporting SDK in the current version of the App.

6. How We Use Your Information

We use information to:

  • Provide core functionality — create, display, edit, and delete habits and journal entries
  • Automate habit completion — read Apple Health data you authorize to mark qualifying habits complete
  • Transcribe voice journals — convert temporary audio into text on your device
  • Show timeline and map views — organize entries chronologically and display optional location-based views
  • Enable export — generate CSV/PDF files you choose to share
  • Sync across devices — keep your data consistent via iCloud when enabled
  • Power widgets — display habit and journal shortcut information through Apple's widget system
  • Deliver local reminders — schedule morning and evening notifications you configure
  • Manage subscriptions — verify Jourlit Pro entitlement through Apple and RevenueCat
  • Improve reliability — diagnose technical issues using on-device logs
  • Provide support — respond to emails you send us
  • Comply with law — where required by applicable legal obligations

We do not use your journal or habit content for advertising or sell it to third parties.

7. Legal Bases for Processing (EEA/UK Users)

If you are in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom, we rely on the following legal bases:

You may withdraw consent for optional permissions at any time through iOS Settings without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.

8. Third-Party Services

8.1 Apple Inc.

Apple provides, among other services:

  • iCloud / CloudKit private database sync
  • App Store billing and subscription management
  • HealthKit
  • Speech recognition
  • Location Services and geocoding
  • Local and system notifications
  • WidgetKit and App Intents

Apple's handling of your data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/

8.2 RevenueCat, Inc.

We use RevenueCat to:

  • Validate whether Jourlit Pro is active on your device
  • Present subscription offerings
  • Process restore-purchase flows in connection with StoreKit

RevenueCat may receive app user identifiers, transaction-related metadata, and device/app information needed for subscription management. RevenueCat's privacy practices are described at: https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy

8.3 No other third-party data processors identified

Based on the current App implementation, Polaris View does not transmit your journal or habit content to its own backend servers. Content sync occurs through your iCloud account via Apple.

When you use Export or Share, you choose where files go (Mail, Files, AirDrop, etc.). Once shared outside the App, that destination's privacy policy applies.

9. Data Storage, Retention, and Security

9.1 Where data is stored

  • On your iPhone/iPad — in the App's local database (SwiftData/SQLite) and App Group storage shared with the Jourlit widget extension
  • In your iCloud account — if iCloud sync is enabled, encrypted in your private CloudKit database
  • Temporarily on device — voice audio files during transcription (deleted afterward)
  • In memory/cache — short-lived reverse-geocoding labels for map display

Polaris View does not maintain a separate cloud database of your journal or habit content.

9.2 Retention

We retain information for as long as needed to provide the App:

  • Journal and habit data — until you delete individual entries, use "Delete Everything" in Settings, delete the App, or remove data from iCloud through Apple's tools
  • Temporary voice files — only for the duration of transcription, then deleted
  • Support emails — as long as reasonably necessary to resolve your request and meet legal/recordkeeping needs
  • Subscription records at RevenueCat/Apple — according to those providers' retention policies

9.3 Security measures

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures appropriate to the nature of the data, including:

  • iOS file protection and device-level encryption
  • Private iCloud CloudKit database scoped to your Apple ID
  • On-device speech recognition for voice journaling
  • Read-only HealthKit access limited to the metrics you authorize
  • HTTPS for network communications with Apple and RevenueCat

No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure. You are responsible for securing your device and Apple ID.

10. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information.

We may disclose information only in these limited circumstances:

  • With your direction — when you export or share content using iOS share features
  • Service providers — Apple and RevenueCat, strictly to operate the App as described
  • Legal requirements — if required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request
  • Protection of rights — to protect the rights, property, or safety of Polaris View, users, or others, where permitted by law
  • Business transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, subject to continued protection consistent with this policy

11. Your Choices and Rights

11.1 In-app controls

You can:

  • Edit or delete individual journal entries and habits
  • Delete all habits and journal data via Settings → delete/erase all data (purchases are not affected; iCloud-connected devices will update over time)
  • Turn off morning/evening reminders in Settings
  • Disable journal or habits modules in workspace settings
  • Revoke permissions anytime in iOS Settings (Location, Microphone, Speech Recognition, Notifications, Health)
  • Manage subscriptions through Apple's subscription settings or in-app "Manage subscription"
  • Restore purchases through the App

11.2 iCloud sync controls

You can disable iCloud for Jourlit or sign out of iCloud through iOS Settings. This affects sync across devices but may not immediately remove data already stored in your iCloud account; you may need to manage that through Apple.

11.3 Rights for EEA/UK residents (GDPR)

Subject to applicable law, you may have the right to:

  • Access personal data we process as controller
  • Rectify inaccurate data (most content is editable in-app)
  • Erase data ("right to be forgotten")
  • Restrict or object to certain processing
  • Data portability (export features may help for journal content you choose to export)
  • Lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority

To exercise these rights, contact support@polarisview.com. Because most content is stored on your device and in your iCloud account, some requests may require action by you in the App or through Apple.

11.4 Rights for California residents (CCPA/CPRA)

California residents may have the right to:

  • Know what personal information is collected, used, and disclosed
  • Delete personal information
  • Correct inaccurate personal information
  • Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising

We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

To submit a request: support@polarisview.com
We will verify requests as required by law.

12. Children's Privacy

Jourlit is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

13. International Users

Polaris View is based in the United States. If you use Jourlit from outside the United States, your information may be processed in the United States and in the countries where Apple, RevenueCat, or other service providers operate. Those providers may rely on appropriate safeguards as described in their own policies.

Continued use of Jourlit after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated policy, except where further consent is required by law.
